Alisson Becker 6

Made a right mess when conceding the early penalty and was booked as a consequence. Otherwise solid.

Ki-Jana Hoever 8

Guilty of occasional misjudgements defensively but regularly joined the forward play and put in a succession of good balls from the right, one of which led to Andersen's blistering own goal. Likes a slide tackle, and booked after one too many.

Joe Gomez 7

Struggled alarmingly in the opening exchanges but the switch was then flicked and he began to impress while helping Hoever.

Dejan Lovren 6

Sliced one clearance as Liverpool began in a panic. Like this team-mates, though, the Croat cooled down.

Yasser Larouci 6

Steep learning curve for the teenager, whose defending was tested. Always happy to bomb forward. Doesn't look out of place.

Adam Lallana 8

His endeavour and distribution helped work Liverpool back into the game, and was impressive in the deeper midfield role.

Xherdan Shaqiri 7

Lively throughout his cameo and appears fit and strong. Played a part in the equaliser.

Naby Keita 8

This was the Keita who was hitting his stride before injury rather than the tentative Keita throughout much of his debut season. Pressed high, most notably for Liverpool's first, and looked to create.

Mohamed Salah 8

Well up for it from the first whistle, full of pace and imagination. Only missing a goal. No worries about the Egyptian on this evidence.

Roberto Firmino 8

Only needed half-an-hour to show what Liverpool had been missing up front, not least the excellent turn and finish for his goal.

Harry Wilson 8

Hit the post with one shot and tested Lopes in the Lyon goal with another. Better when drifting into a central position, such as with the blistering curler for Liverpool's third.

James Milner (for Shaqiri 31) 6

Straight into the action with one run down the right.

Rhian Brewster (for Firmino 31) 6

A couple of flashes of promise from the youngster.

Sepp van den Berg (for Hoever 46) 6

Kept things simple at the back.

Forced a save with one rasping drive.
